HostingMatters - web hosting reviews

HostingMatters provides the service that it advertises. Their prices range from rather expensive for small accounts to very competitive for large accounts so might want to take that into consideration.

Otherwise they seem to be top notch according to what I've read at WebHostingTalk.com:

"All too often people post their horror stories. So here is a story that is not a horror story.
I signed up with a company called http://www.hostingmatters.com in December 2001 I believe. Since then every request that has been sent in to support has been answered quickly, usually within an hour or so, and efficiently. The server has remained up and running and I have not lost any data or emails. I highly recommend this company as they are responsive, efficient, fast and have great pricing."

"I'll add to this thread in case people search for hostingmatters or hosting matters in the future.
I've been with hosting matter for almost a year now. My foray into choosing hosting companies was arduous as my domain was taken, my host went down and it was a mess.
The hosting matters team did everything they could to make it easy on me. Within a week I was up and running and it's been smooth sailing since.
Yes, there have been occasions when servers needed to be rebooted, but 80% of the time they know about it before I do and they are already working on it.
The best thing about hosting matters is their support. In fact, hosting matters is what I consider to be the gold standard when it comes to support. Tickets are answered quickly. They participate in the forums. They truly go the extra mile for each and every one of their customers.
Some people may remark that hosting matters doesn't offer unlimited this or all you can use that. Some may mention their prices are higher than the lowest around. Well, yes, that is true. It's true because you get what you pay for. You get responsive servers, a great community of fellow customers and dynamite support. Considering it's only a few dollars more than the el cheapo hosts you are getting a bargain!
Simply stated, hosting matters rocks. If you come across this message and are trying to find a good, honest host, then these are the folks."

"Agree, as a customer for a year-ish, I've had my share of problems, but always received immediate attention from support.
Hosting matters has provided excellent services, the support tickets are answered within 12 hours, usually a LOT less.
When I have a problem that is not worth a support ticket (i.e. where can I get a good ___ PHP script?" The support boards are an excellent place to turn.
Servers are reliable, sometimes need booted (oops, rebooted), and always receive immediate attentions.
The price is worth the service. As many may have noticed recently, my hunt for a better host has turned up negative. While there are many hosts that are quite competent and probably capable of hosting the exact same way Hosting Matters does (different personality however), I cannot find any so exceptionally good that I find reason to move my site to them).
If anyone is looking for a great host, check out Hosting Matters."

"I would also, like to put my 2 cents in, for Newbies.
I know absolutely nothing about hosting. I browsed for months reading and re-reading the different 'hosting' pages. What they offered, how much, etc.
Hosting Matters is approximately the same price, as almost all the other hosting places out there. There's really not that much difference in prices or size of site.
But like others before me, it's their Customer Service that is the BIG seller.
That, and their PATIENCE.
As I said, I'm a "Newbie". (big time) They have been very patient with me, in the questions that I ask, (which, I'm sure, are some pretty stupid ones, and when you get asked the same question for the one millionth time, it's hard to be patient).
You don't know How much I appreciate that patience.
So for this Newbie, I would not go any where else, even when I'm not a "newbie" any longer (how long will that be? 30 years? I would not go with any one else, because Hosting Matters, the staff, and even the 'regulars, from way back' clients, have earn my loyalty."

"Just like to add some words about HostMatters.
This is a truly GREAT business. The people who run HostMatters know what they are doing. Other companies should take notes on how they run things over there at HM. I moved to HM from Aletia because of tech support issues (or maybe I should say lack of support from Aletia). It would take two or three days minimum to get a response for support tickets. I got fed up with that and moved to HM. Since then, I believe my web site was down twice. Once for a period of a few minutes for a reboot and once yesterday because of some sort of bandwidth issue that was resolved quickly. Every support ticket I've entered was solved in one hour or less. I don't know if there's much more anyone could ask from HM... maybe if they'd answer support tickets in less than 30 minutes?!?! This has to be the best host out there!"
